Just got back from the most awesomest amazing 8 days away up at Ahipara on Ninety Mile Beach. It was so cool. The weather was amazing. James surfed so well though unfortunately got knocked out of the comp a couple of days ago. He was competing in the National Surfing champs in the Open Mens and U18 divisions (he's 16) so did extremely well and certainly showed he was a worthy competitor. We were so proud of him. He's a couple of photos. I took lots. Mostly of James surfing.
The first is a shot of Shipwreck Bay at Ahipara which is the bottom of Ninety Mile Beach. See the waves peeling in off the point and round further they get bigger. You can actually drive around the point over rocks and sand for miles. The second is James coming into a very good deep bottom turn and the 3rd is James just completing a re-entry, see the spray he's made with his board - that's good- that's called smacking the lip and he'll carry on down to the bottom of the wave for a bottom turn - the lower he goes the better. The waves he surfed in the comp were actually much bigger than these but I couldn't get photos cause he was too far out.

I wondered where you went - was thinking about that when I heard the details for the competition on the radio the other day - no names though. Missed ya! Well done to James and yip I too am jealous of that new camera - look how cool those shots are. And you sound like a surfer mum too! Glad you had a good time away.
Hi Lianne, wondered where you were (I've been checking your blog for updates! and thinking you were busy elsewhere) -sounds like a great time and good to hear James did well!

Awesome James!!!!!!!! Well done. Great pics to Lianne. So glad you have you little camera to play with. Now can you teach me?? LOL Nice to have you back and glad you had a great time. Don't you just love the summer hols??
Happy New Year Lianne! I've just got back from a beach holiday up the Far North at Taupo Bay (on 16th) - so was only about 1 hours drive away. We heard about the surf champs on the radio and realised that was why there were no surfies on our beach - they must've all been up at Ahipara. We had such smooth seas this year that it wasn't much good for them at anyhow. Great for us swimmers though.
